West Crete

Description

West Crete has all one can wait to see in Crete: Deep and wild gorges, steep mountains, green valleys and woods, amazing beaches, very important archaeological sites and historical venues and amazing towns, such as Rethymnon and Chania.

Find the small village of Fodele, famous as the birthplace of “El Greco” the painter. Further west lays Chania, Crete’s second largest city. This “Little Venice of Crete” still holds a wealth of Italian architecture. Finally a visit to Rethymnon with a lovely harbour and well preserved Venetian buildings and its famous Turkish minaret. Walk around harbour or just have a cup of coffee in one the local taverns.

Another option to discover west part of Crete is to visit the historical monastery of Agia Triada (Holy Trinity). Next stop will be at the marvellous beach of Stavros where the movie “Zorbas” was filmed. There will be free time for swimming and relaxation. Finally, we will visit Chania city, where you will have a chance to admire the old harbour and get lost in the picturesque narrow streets of the Venetian old town.
